Max Gazzè is an Italian singer-songwriter and bassist born in Rome in 1967. He studied piano as a child, took up electric bass at thirteen, and spent several years in Brussels performing with the English soul group 4 Play 4 before returning to Rome in 1992. His debut album, Contro un'onda del mare, appeared in 1996 and introduced a style spanning pop, pop-rock, progressive rock and symphonic arrangement, marked by literary songwriting.
His catalogue includes La favola di Adamo ed Eva, the platinum-certified Sotto casa and La matematica dei rami, and he co-founded the songwriting collective Fabi Silvestri Gazzè with Niccolò Fabi and Daniele Silvestri. He won the Giancarlo Bigazzi award at the 2018 Sanremo Festival for best musical composition and a Ciak d'oro for film scoring in 2010, and has continued to tour and record into the mid-2020s.
