Giuseppe "Pippo" Pollina is an Italian singer-songwriter and writer, born in Palermo on 18 May 1963. In 1979 he co-founded the Palermo cultural and music group Agricantus, and in 1985 he left Italy to travel and perform across Europe as a street musician. He lives in Zürich.
The Swiss singer-songwriter Linard Bardill discovered him playing in Lucerne and invited him to join his album and tour, which marked the start of his professional career. He built a following in German-speaking countries in the 1990s, and the album Rossocuore (1999) brought wider success. He sings mainly in Italian, sometimes in Sicilian, and has recorded more than twenty albums, among them Ultimo volo (2007), a theatre piece about the Ustica air disaster.
His collaborators include Linard Bardill, Konstantin Wecker, Georges Moustaki, Franco Battiato, Inti-Illimani and the duo Werner Schmidbauer and Martin Kälberer, with whom he recorded the albums Süden (2012) and Süden II (2019). He published the novel Der Andere in 2022 and the autobiography Verse für die Freiheit (German edition 2017).
