Tomahawk is an American rock supergroup formed in 1999 after singer Mike Patton, best known for Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, met guitarist Duane Denison of the Jesus Lizard at a concert in Nashville. Denison brought in drummer John Stanier of Helmet, while Patton recruited bassist Kevin Rutmanis, formerly of the Melvins and Cows, to complete the original lineup.

О Tomahawk

The band's self-titled 2001 debut mixed rock with experimental, country and hardcore elements, and 2003's Mit Gas built on that sound, reaching number seven on the US Independent Albums chart and drawing praise from critics; Pitchfork scored it 8.4 out of 10 for its more focused songwriting. Later albums Anonymous (2007) and Oddfellows (2013) incorporated Native American musical and jazz influences respectively, while Tonic Immobility followed in 2021.

Rutmanis departed during the recording of Anonymous and was replaced in 2012 by bassist Trevor Dunn, known for his work with Mr. Bungle and Fantomas, who remains the band's current bassist. Tomahawk was also known in its early years for an onstage visual identity in which members dressed as police officers.

The band has said no new Tomahawk music is currently in the works, but the group reunited for its first live performances since 2013 to mark its twenty-fifth anniversary, after an earlier planned festival appearance had been called off.
