Cirque du Soleil OVO in Salzburg

Cirque du Soleil brings its insect-inspired production OVO to Salzburg, a show that premiered in Montréal in 2009. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO draws inspiration from the world of insects, focusing on movement and the energy of life. The score, composed by Berna Ceppas, is infused with Brazilian musical influences, adding a lively, rhythmic backdrop to the performance.

Attendees can expect a visually striking spectacle featuring a cast of 54 performing artists from sixteen countries. The show includes ten acrobatic acts, such as foot juggling by the Ants, hand balancing by the Dragonfly, and aerial straps by the Butterflies. Characters like Master Flipo, the Foreigner, and Ladybug guide the narrative through a chaotic insect colony, with acts ranging from diabolo manipulation by the Firefly to the flying trapeze by the Scarabs.

The production's set design by Gringo Cardia features irregular shapes, a large rear wall, and illuminated "firefly eggs" that produce a full color spectrum. OVO's largest flying act involves eighty cables and a trapeze net spanning 30 meters. This immersive experience blends circus artistry with theatrical storytelling.
