Events in Spain 2026

Spain has one of the busiest event calendars in Europe, and unusually for the continent it barely has an off-season: the summer is open-air, the autumn and winter belong to theatres and concert halls, and the fiesta calendar runs underneath all of it from one end of the year to the other.

Quick answer

The programme is not spread evenly. Madrid carries by far the deepest calendar of any Spanish city, with Barcelona and Seville the clear next tier, and a long tail of provincial capitals — Málaga, Córdoba, Zaragoza, Valencia, Burgos, Bilbao, Murcia — each running a real season of their own rather than a handful of tourist dates.

The listing below is pulled live from our events database and sorted by date, so it changes as new dates are confirmed. Always check times, venue and ticketing on the official organiser page before you book anything.

How the Spanish year is shaped

Spring is the heaviest stretch of the traditional calendar: Holy Week processions move through towns across the country in the run-up to Easter, and the fair and pilgrimage season follows immediately behind it in Andalusia. Because it is pegged to Easter it moves every year, so check dates before assuming a March or April trip lands on it.

Summer pushes almost everything outdoors. Open-air music, town fiestas and night markets take over from roughly June to early September, and in the hottest inland cities the programme genuinely starts late — concerts at ten in the evening are normal, not a novelty.

Autumn is when the indoor season restarts. Theatres, concert halls and auditoriums publish their programmes in September and run hard through to Christmas, which is why the deepest listings on this page in October and November are cultural rather than festival dates.

December is its own season, opening with the public-holiday bridge in the first week and closing on 6 January with the Three Kings. Between those two points every sizeable Spanish town runs lights, nativity displays and a holiday programme.

Planning around a Spanish event

  • Spanish evenings start late. Doors at 21:00 or 22:00 are ordinary, and clubs and late venues run well past what most of Europe treats as closing time.
  • The big travel crunches are Holy Week, the first week of August and the stretch from 22 December to 6 January — book trains and beds weeks ahead for those.
  • Long-distance high-speed rail links Madrid to Barcelona, Seville, Córdoba, Málaga and Valencia, so pairing two cities around one event is usually easier than flying between them.
  • Many cities close their historic centres to traffic for major fiestas. If you are driving, check where you can actually park before the day.
  • August empties the big cities of residents and fills the coast. If you want a Spanish city at its most local, September is a better month than August.

FAQ

What events are on in Spain in 2026?
The listing above is generated from the events we currently track across Spain, sorted by date — concerts, theatre, comedy, family shows, markets and fiestas, with Madrid, Barcelona and Seville carrying the largest programmes. It updates as new dates are confirmed.
Which Spanish city has the most events?
Madrid, by a wide margin. It runs the biggest theatre, comedy and live-music programme in the country and does so all year. Barcelona is second, with Seville leading the rest.
When is the busiest time of year for events in Spain?
Two peaks. Spring, around Holy Week and the Andalusian fair season, and then summer, when the open-air programme and town fiestas run from June into early September. The indoor cultural season restarts in September and runs to Christmas.
How far ahead should I book?
For anything landing in Holy Week, the first week of August, or between 22 December and 6 January, book transport and accommodation several weeks out. Outside those windows most Spanish cities absorb visitors comfortably.
