Experience a beloved village feast in Birkirkara
St Helen's Basilica in Birkirkara holds its patronal feast on August 23, 2026, one of Malta's most distinctive village feasts because the statue procession happens by day rather than the usual evening — St Helen emerges at 8am, the only Maltese feast run this way.
The day builds through decorated streets, daytime petards, marching bands and a church interior lit by chandeliers, before closing with aerial and ground fireworks after dark. As with all Maltese village feasts, everything is free and takes place in public streets and squares around the basilica.
