As Estreias da Semana: New Films in Lisbon

Every Thursday, Lisbon cinemas refresh their lineups with new releases. This week's highlight is "O Canto das Árvores Esquecidas," the debut feature by Indian director Anuparna Roy, which won Best Director in the Orizzonti section at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. The film follows two immigrant women in Mumbai whose unexpected friendship is tested as past wounds surface.

Also opening is Christopher Nolan's "A Odisseia," an epic adaptation of Homer's poem starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway. Other new releases include "Rosebush Pruning" by Karim Aïnouz, set in a wealthy Catalan village, and "A Noite de Alaíde," a Brazilian film about Bossa Nova singer Alaíde Costa. The weekly programme runs from 16 to 22 July across Lisbon cinemas.
