A Walk on the Moon is a Arts & Theatre / Miscellaneous / Miscellaneous event at Laura Pels Theatre in New York.
This 1999 American drama film, directed by Tony Goldwyn in his directorial debut, stars Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen, Liev Schreiber, and Anna Paquin. Set against the backdrop of the 1969 Woodstock festival and the first Moon landing, the story follows Pearl Kantrowitz, a lower middle class Jewish housewife vacationing with her family in the Catskills. Feeling trapped in her marriage, she begins an affair with a free-spirited traveling salesman, while her teenage daughter experiences her own summer of firsts.
The film was acclaimed on release, with Diane Lane earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead. The screenplay, originally titled "The Blouse Man," was written by Pamela Gray, inspired by her own childhood summers in a Catskills bungalow colony. Gray won the national Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award for the script, though it took years to get produced until Tony Goldwyn discovered it and was drawn to its themes of midlife identity and coming-of-age against the 1960s counterculture.
