Ricky Martin began performing as a child, joining the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo at twelve before launching a solo career in 1991. He became a global star with the 1999 single 'Livin' la Vida Loca', which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, and the self-titled English-language album that debuted at number one.

Earlier records such as A Medio Vivir (1995) and Vuelve (1998), one of the best-selling Spanish-language albums ever, established him in Latin pop before his crossover. Martin performed 'La Copa de la Vida' as the official song of the 1998 World Cup and has sold more than 70 million records worldwide.
