White Flowers: A Sri Lankan Cinema Classic

This 1978 Sri Lankan drama, directed by Dr. Lester James Peries, tells the haunting story of Dr. Sarath, an abusive husband tormented by his wife's death during childbirth. The film, based on a book by Eileen Siriwardene, was made at the urging of D. B. I. S. Siriwardene.

Critically and commercially successful in Sri Lanka, *White Flowers for the Dead* earned Best Film from the Third World at the Cairo International Film Festival. The cast features Tony Ranasinghe as Sarath, alongside Sriyani Amarasena and Vijaya Kumaratunga.

Attendees can expect a screening of this classic, which also won Best Actor, Best Direction, and several other honors at the 1979 Presidential Film Awards.
