Bordar a Cidade: Embroidery Workshop in Lisbon

Bordar a cidade is a workshop series that intertwines the concept of the "right to the city" with the long history of embroidery as a silent form of resistance. Led by Riddhi Varma and Angela Nganga, participants learn traditional embroidery techniques taught by migrant artisans, accompanied by stories of cultural exchange between their countries of origin and Portugal.

As they stitch, attendees revisit their daily routes, frequented spaces, urban points of attention, small habits, obstacles, and invisible borders that cross the experience of the city. Each participant creates an abstract map of their relationship with Lisbon, producing an embroidered document of presence, memory, and connection to the city. No prior embroidery experience is required.

The workshop is organized in two independent cycles: one on July 18 and 19, and another on August 29, September 5 and 9. It takes place at Brotéria gallery, with a maximum of 15 participants per session.
