Miki Yamanaka Trio

Japanese-born pianist Miki Yamanaka brings her trio to Birdland Theater for a night of contemporary jazz. Based in New York since 2012, Yamanaka has built a reputation for her light, expressive touch and solidly crafted, mainstream approach, and she is equally at home on piano and organ. Her release Shades of Rainbow features jazz masters Mark Turner alongside her regular rhythm section, and her busy NYC calendar includes residencies at the West Village clubs Smalls and Mezzrow as well as performances with the Harish Raghavan Quintet and the Mingus Bigband.

Attendees can expect an intimate evening of standards and originals from a pianist praised for both her playing and vibrant stage personality. Whether leading her own group or collaborating with longtime drummer Jimmy Macbride, Yamanaka brings deep knowledge of the Great American Songbook and iconic jazz composers to every set.
