Public Image Ltd
Public Image Ltd, often abbreviated PiL, is an English band formed in London in June 1978 by John Lydon following his departure from the Sex Pistols. The original lineup paired Lydon with guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker, and was conceived as a deliberately anti-rock, art-oriented project rather than a conventional punk group.

Über Public Image Ltd
PiL's early records fused dub reggae's bass-heavy rhythms with noise and post-punk experimentation, most notably on Metal Box (1979), widely regarded as one of the defining albums of the post-punk era, and The Flowers of Romance (1981). By the mid-1980s the band had moved toward a more commercial, dance-oriented sound on albums including This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get (1984) and Album (1986).
The band's lineup changed frequently over its first fourteen years, with Lydon as the sole constant member, before PiL disbanded in 1992. Lydon revived the group in 2009 with a new lineup that has included guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Lu Edmonds and bassist Scott Firth.
Since reforming, PiL has released three further studio albums, This Is PiL (2012), What the World Needs Now... (2015), and End of World (2023), along with a 2025 live album, Alive. The band has remained a consistently active touring act in the years since.
