Quicksand
Quicksand is an American post-hardcore band from New York City, formed in 1990 by frontman Walter Schreifels, previously of Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today, who assembled the group from members of other New York hardcore bands: guitarist Tom Capone, drummer Alan Cage, and bassist Sergio Vega. The band's sound blends the intensity of hardcore with more experimental, melodic songwriting, drawing comparisons to Fugazi and Helmet.

Über Quicksand
After a debut EP on Revelation Records, Quicksand signed to Polydor, becoming one of the first post-hardcore bands on a major label, and released Slip (1993), which sold around 100,000 copies, followed by Manic Compression (1995), which charted on the Billboard 200. Internal conflict and touring strain led the band to split in October 1995.
Quicksand briefly reunited in 1997-1999 to record an album that went unfinished before disbanding again. Members went on to other projects, including Schreifels forming Rival Schools and Vega playing bass in Deftones, before Quicksand reunited for good in 2012, surprising fans as guests at a Revelation Records anniversary show.
Since reuniting, the band has released Interiors (2017), its first album in 22 years, followed by Distant Populations (2021), with a further album, Bring On the Psychics, set for 2026.
