Die Frau in Schwarz | Gespenstergeschichte in Salzburg

The production is by Stepehen Mallatratt, based on the novel of the same name by Susan Hill, in a German version by Sasika Wesnigk. Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer, travels to a godforsaken area to settle the estate of a deceased client. The taciturn village community avoids him, and at the orphaned house of the dead woman he encounters a mysterious woman in black.

He tries to fathom her secret until he realises that the spirits he summoned unleash terrible forces on his life. Mallatratt has conceived his dramatisation as a play within a play, a game with illusions and the imagination of the audience: together with an actor, Kipps goes through the gruesome events of that time once more. The ensemble of the OFF Theater was founded in 2009.

In autumn 2016 the ensemble found its own venue in Salzburg with the OFF Theater in the Eichstraße. The programme includes theatre for young and old, and workshops for children, young people and adults are offered.

Other ensembles also take to the theatre's stage as part of guest performances. The in-house OFFenbar takes care of guests' physical well-being.
