Forbidden Nights

Forbidden Nights is a 1990 American made-for-television drama film directed by Waris Hussein. Based on Judith Shapiro's article "The Rocky Course of Love in China," the film was shot in Hong Kong and stars Melissa Gilbert, Robin Shou, and Victor K. Wong.

The story is set in Red China in 1979, following Judith Shapiro, an American teacher who falls in love with Liang Heng, a Chinese radical striving for political reform. The film explores her journey of setting aside her own dreams to fit into his ideals, leading to inevitable conflict.

This film marked the American debut of Robin Shou, who would later gain fame in Mortal Kombat (1995). The cast also includes Ho Tzi Ma, Li Dao, and Stephen Fung, adding depth to this dramatic tale of love and political turmoil.
