Cabaret Voltaire
Cabaret Voltaire is an English band formed in Sheffield in 1973 by Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk, and Chris Watson, taking their name from the Zurich nightclub associated with the Dada art movement. Working initially with tape recorders, homemade electronics, and found sound, the trio became pioneers of industrial music, later folding in post-punk, electronic body music, electro, acid house, and techno as their sound evolved across five decades.

Σχετικά με Cabaret Voltaire
The band's early albums built a reputation for unpredictable structures, manipulated vocals, and non-Western sound sources over mechanical rhythms. After signing to Virgin Records in the early 1980s, the group moved toward more accessible, rhythm-driven material on albums such as The Crackdown (1983), while the earlier Red Mecca had already reached number one on the UK independent albums chart. Their influence has been cited by artists including New Order's Bernard Sumner, Trent Reznor, and Skinny Puppy, and Sheffield's Sensoria Music & Film Festival is named after a Cabaret Voltaire song.
Watson departed the group in 1981, after which Kirk and Mallinder continued as a duo, exploring house and techno production before pursuing solo projects and disbanding in 1994. Kirk later revived the Cabaret Voltaire name as a solo project in 2009, performing and recording under that banner until his death in September 2021.
In October 2025, original members Watson and Mallinder reunited to mark the band's fiftieth anniversary, later announcing a final run of original-lineup performances continuing through 2026. The reunion follows Kirk's 2021 death and marks the first time in over four decades that Watson has performed live under the Cabaret Voltaire name.
