Kasiva Mutua: Kenyan Percussionist in Dortmund

Kasiva Mutua, a celebrated Kenyan percussionist, brings her powerful rhythms to Dortmund. Growing up in a village where women were traditionally forbidden to play drums, Mutua learned from her grandmother and overcame harassment and destruction of her equipment to pursue her passion. She now blends traditional African drumming with modern influences, creating a unique sound that tells stories of resilience and culture.

Mutua is a co-founder of MOTRA, an all-women percussion group, and has been a Global TED Fellow. Her performances are known for their energy and storytelling, offering audiences an immersive experience into Kenyan musical traditions.
