About Alex G
His breakthrough came with DSU, released on Orchid Tapes in 2014 to critical acclaim, followed by a run of albums on Domino Recording Company including Beach Music (2015), Rocket (2017), House of Sugar (2019) and God Save the Animals (2022); House of Sugar was ranked 17th on Pitchfork's year-end albums list for 2019. He moved to RCA Records for Headlights in 2025. Alongside his solo work, Giannascoli has contributed guitar and arrangements to Frank Ocean's Endless and Blonde (both 2015) and played on eight tracks of Halsey's The Great Impersonator, and he composed film scores for director Jane Schoenbrun's We're All Going to the World's Fair (2022) and I Saw the TV Glow (2024).
Giannascoli began performing under various names in high school, including a band called MOTHER formed with his sister, before enrolling at Temple University to study English in 2011. He left school to pursue music after his early self-released records, among them Race, Rules and Trick, found an online following, and he has recorded much of his catalogue himself using home studio equipment, a process that shaped his lo-fi, genre-shifting sound across folk, indie rock and experimental production.
Since signing with RCA Records for Headlights in 2025, Alex G has continued to record and tour behind the album while maintaining his outside work as a session musician, arranger and film composer.
