Alfons is the stage name of Emmanuel Peterfalvi, a French-German cabaret artist born on 17 March 1967 in Paris. He moved to Germany in 1991 to do a sixteen-month stint abroad instead of military service, working for the broadcaster Premiere, and has lived in Hamburg since. He has held German citizenship since 3 November 2017.
He first appeared on German television in 1994 in Kalkofes Mattscheibe. With writer Ralf Schulze he developed the character Alfons, a clumsy-seeming French TV reporter in an orange tracksuit with an oversized fluffy microphone, who conducts absurd street interviews that lead interviewees to expose their own stereotypes. The street surveys became a regular part of the satire magazine Extra 3.
He hosted Alfons & Gäste on SR and SWR from 2006 to the end of 2025 and the Saarländischer Rundfunk's Gesellschaftsabend from 2008 to 2025, and has presented the SWR1 radio segment Bonjour Alfons since 2015. He has performed live stage programmes since 2005. His honours include the Bayerischer Kabarettpreis (2019), the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis (2020) and the Bundesverdienstkreuz (2021).
