Antony Szmierek is an English musician and spoken-word artist working in a style often described as pop poetry, blending narrative lyrics with dance and pop production. Before turning to music full time, he worked as a secondary school teacher, writing and performing poetry on the side. His profile rose in 2023 with the release of his debut EP, Poems to Dance To.
That year he won BBC Radio 6 Music's Artist of the Year award, a recognition that prompted him to leave teaching for a full-time music career. His debut studio album, Service Station at the End of the Universe, followed on 28 February 2025 and produced five singles: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Fallacy," "Rafters," "The Great Pyramid of Stockport," "Yoga Teacher" and "Angie's Wedding."
The album drew wide critical acclaim, scoring 89 on Metacritic and a full five stars from Dork magazine, with Clash praising its warmth and character-driven songwriting. Szmierek's performances center on spoken-word delivery layered over dance and indie-pop production, with lyrics built around specific characters and places rather than abstract themes.
