Hayseed Dixie are an American band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2000, known for creating what they call "rockgrass" — bluegrass-style covers of hard rock songs played on acoustic instruments, alongside original satirical material. Their debut album, a set of hillbilly-style reworkings of AC/DC songs, was released in April 2001. The band is led by John Wheeler on vocals, guitar, violin, mandolin, and piano, with Jake "Bakesnake" Byers on acoustic bass, Hippy Joe Hymas on mandolin and guitar, and Richard Collins on banjo.
The band has released 16 studio albums and sold more than 250,000 records in the United States between 2001 and 2003. Their 2015 album Hair Down to My Grass topped the UK Country Chart, one of several chart-topping releases in Britain.
Hayseed Dixie's live show pairs bluegrass instrumentation with hard-rock stage energy, a combination that has taken them to more than 1,400 shows across 31 countries, including opening the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2005 and appearances on Top of the Pops in 2005 and Jools Holland's Hootenanny in 2014.
