Howard Jones, born John Howard Jones on February 23, 1955, in Hythe, Hampshire, England, is an English musician regarded as one of the defining figures of mid-1980s synth-pop. Raised largely in Cardiff, Wales, he emerged as part of the Second British Invasion of the United States alongside other synth-driven acts of the era.
His debut album, Human's Lib (1984), reached number one in the United Kingdom, followed by Dream into Action (1985), which peaked at number two in the UK and number ten in the United States, and One to One (1986). Jones placed ten singles in the UK top 40 between 1983 and 1986, six reaching the top ten, including "What Is Love?," "Things Can Only Get Better" and "Like to Get to Know You Well." His biggest US hit, "No One Is to Blame," reached number four on the American charts in 1986.
Jones performed at Live Aid in 1985 and at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony the same year, and has sold more than eight million albums worldwide over his career. He has continued to record new material, releasing Piano Composed in 2025, and remains an active touring artist performing his catalog of 1980s hits.
