Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are an English psychedelic rock and doom metal band formed in Cambridge in 2009 by Kevin R. Starrs, who performs under the name Uncle Acid and handles lead guitar, lead vocals, and organ. The band built its identity around deliberately recreating the sound and atmosphere of late-1960s heavy rock, filtered through a darker, occult-tinged sensibility.

About Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Their breakthrough came with the album Blood Lust (2011), followed by the concept album Mind Control (2013), which received widespread critical acclaim within the metal and psychedelic rock press. The band's sound draws on stoner rock, occult rock, and doom metal, and is closely associated with a vintage aesthetic: analogue recording equipment, period-accurate instruments, and production choices intended to evoke records from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Critics have described the group's music as an extension of the "Summer of Love" filtered through menace, with their label, Metal Blade Records, characterizing their sound as a hybrid of the original Alice Cooper band, early Black Sabbath, and the Stooges. Their most recent studio album, Nell'Ora Blu, was released in 2024.
The band remains an active touring act, having completed a European tour in January 2025 and a North American tour in February 2025, with a scheduled performance at Hellfest in June 2026.
