Conferencia: la ciencia de la ciencia ficción takes place on Wednesday 14 October 2026 at 9:10 at Instituto de Educación Secundaria (IES) Ramiro de Maeztu, Calle Serrano, 127, Madrid. The speaker is Jose Manuel Tenorio, a science and culture communicator, director of various workshops on scientific culture and producer of shows and cinema.
The talk is open to ages 8 and over, with free entry until capacity is reached. It covers five areas: what we understand by science fiction and the genre's major themes, including space exploration, robots, artificial intelligence, time travel, utopias, dystopias and alternative worlds; how fiction anticipates reality, from Julio Verne to Arthur C. Clarke, with satellites, video calls, submarine travel and space stations; what science says about interstellar travel, planetary colonisation, extraterrestrial life, parallel universes, androids and conscious machines; the dilemmas of the future, such as surveillance, automation, genetic manipulation, ecological crisis and transhumanism; and cinema, literature and scientific imagination, looking at how novels, films and series have turned science into narrative, metaphor and a tool for thinking about the world.
