Night of the Full Moon

Zadar, Croatia · Culture · Summer

Night of the Full Moon (Croatian: Noć punog miseca) is a festival of the culture, cuisine and customs of the Zadar region, held on Zadar’s seafront promenade, the Riva. Organised by the local cultural society Propela, it marked its 18th edition in 2019, putting its founding at around 2002. Traditional wooden fishing boats moor along the waterfront and are turned into stalls selling regional food, wine and crafts, while the promenade’s street lighting is switched off so the area is lit only by candles, torches and the full moon itself.

About Night of the Full Moon

Because it is timed to a full moon rather than a fixed date, the festival’s exact dates shift from year to year, most often falling in the second half of summer. It showcases Dalmatian folk music, local gastronomy and craftsmanship, and is one of Zadar’s best-known recurring cultural events.
