Southend-on-Sea is a Thames Estuary seaside city built around the world's longest pleasure pier, plus amusement parks, arcades and a wide seafront. It became a city in 2022 and doubles as a London commuter town, with quieter, more traditional stretches like Old Leigh's cockle sheds at its western edge.
