The Seagull runs at Smock Alley Theatre, 1662 in Dublin from 20 November to 12 December 2026, in a contemporary adaptation by Simon Stephens directed by Cathal Cleary.
The Seagull is a play running at Smock Alley Theatre, 1662 in Dublin from 20 November to 12 December 2026. Anton Chekhov wrote it, Simon Stephens adapted it, and Cathal Cleary directs. Irina, a fading star of the stage, returns to her family estate to see her volatile son Konstantin, with her lover Boris in tow.
Nina, an aspiring actress and Konstantin's newest obsession, draws everyone into her orbit, and the tensions beneath the surface of the countryside retreat begin to bubble over. Aisling O'Sullivan plays Irina. The production is a contemporary reimagining by Simon Stephens.
Cathal Cleary previously directed Uncle Vanya in 2025 and A Streetcar Named Desire in 2024 at Smock Alley. Performances are at 19:00 on weekdays and 19:30 on Saturdays, with Saturday matinees at 14:30 on 28 November, 5 December and 12 December. There are no shows on Sundays.
The running time is 2 hours 50 minutes including a 15 minute interval. The age suitability is 12 and over.
