Feast of St Gregory- Tas-Sliema

This page covers the 2026 edition. The event is held every year; dates for the next one are announced closer to the time.
Saturday 22 August 2026 brings the Feast of Stella Maris ("Star of the Sea") to Sliema, honouring Mary as protectress of seafarers. A procession carries Our Lady's statue through the streets, often following a route that takes in the seafront given the town's maritime history, accompanied by a marching brass band.
Through the day, food stalls sell qubbajt (nougat), imqaret (fried date pastries) and other Maltese specialities, while buildings along the route are decorated with lights, bunting and religious statuary.
As evening falls, fireworks — ground-based petards and aerial displays — are set off over the sea. The feast is free to attend and combines Sliema's seafront setting with a traditional Maltese religious celebration.
