Overview
A Carpintaria da Central Tejo 1936-2013 is a Lisbon cultural event at MAAT - Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia, listed on Agenda Cultural Lisboa. Check the official listing for exact times, tickets and any last-minute changes.
This exhibition at the MAAT museum presents a collection of essential tools—benches, clamps, saws, planes, branding irons, chisels, hammers, and more—that were part of the history of the Central Tejo power station, particularly its former carpentry workshop. These instruments evoke the daily factory life and intense atmosphere of this electricity plant, bearing witness to the importance of human labor and industrial strength in the construction of modernity.
The original carpentry workshop was built in 1936 within one of the old buildings of the Central Tejo industrial complex and remained in operation until 1972, when the plant ceased operations. On this site, the MAAT building was erected in 2016. This is the third in a series of exhibitions called "Luz em Toda a Parte," inspired by a 1940s advertising slogan, dedicated to presenting objects and documentary material from the historical collections of the EDP Foundation.
It presents a set of essential tools from the former carpentry workshop of Central Tejo, evoking factory life and industrial history.
At MAAT - Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia, on Avenida de Brasília, Central Tejo.
Open Wednesday to Monday, from 10am to 7pm.
