The Museu Bordalo Pinheiro marks a major milestone in Portuguese visual culture with the exhibition *Toma! 150 Anos de Zés Povinhos*, curated by Jorge Silva and João Alpuim Botelho. Created by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro on June 12, 1875, in the pages of *A Lanterna Mágica*, Zé Povinho became a quintessential symbol of the Portuguese people—critical, ironic, and resilient.

Beyond its longevity, the exhibition highlights the character's constant reinvention: appropriated by caricaturists, brought to the stage, molded in popular ceramics, and featured on political posters, stamps, brands, and newspaper covers. Zé Povinho even became a mascot for the national football team and inspired an automobile project. The show traces this multiplicity of lives while keeping sight of the original, brilliant stroke that gave it lasting form and identity.
