Leonid & Friends bring a horn-heavy tribute to Chicago that began far from the United States. The band started as a YouTube project in Moscow and now tours the United States extensively in the spring and fall. Under founder Leonid Vorobyev, a multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer, the ensemble fields bass and lead guitars, drums, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet and trombone — a setup built for Chicago's brass-and-rock sound.
Over the years the playlist has stretched beyond Chicago to include Earth, Wind & Fire, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power, the Ides of March, Lighthouse and Steely Dan. With about 11 musicians from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus on the road, this is a full, big-band-style show.
