Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984. Its members are a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. The band's concept is a science fiction-themed mythology that portrays the members as barbaric warriors, and it underpins the band's albums, live shows and media. Its stage shows feature enactments of graphic violence in which the audience is sprayed with fake blood, urine and semen.
The media regularly label the band a "shock rock" band. Gwar has released 15 studio albums and two live albums.
