Overview
Luther Allison Quartet is a Music / Jazz / Jazz event at Birdland Jazz Club in New York.
Luther Allison, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist described by the New York Times as reamplifying the tradition of jazz piano, brings his quartet to Birdland Jazz Club. His playing is blues-based and gospel-inspired, with deep roots in bebop and soul music. Allison's debut album, *I Owe It All To You*, earned a 4.5-star rating from Downbeat, which praised it as a portrait of a straight-ahead pianist with no weak points.
Beyond performing, Allison is a dedicated educator and curator, having served as Adjunct Jazz Faculty and Chair of the Percussion Department at The Calhoun School in New York City. He has also curated performances for the Louis Armstrong Museum and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. A proud YAMAHA artist, Allison was commissioned by Wynton Marsalis to compose an original work for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and he appears on screen and soundtrack in Maggie Gyllenhaal's upcoming film *The Bride*.
