Mariachi El Bronx in Indianapolis

Mariachi El Bronx is the mariachi alter ego of the Los Angeles rock band The Bronx, a persona adopted to promote and perform the band's album of the same name. The group still performs under both punk and mariachi identities, so this is a chance to hear the mariachi side in person. The project trades hardcore punk and hard rock for a mariachi style, with original material inspired by the Mexican culture the band grew up surrounded by in Los Angeles.

The whole thing began when the band, asked to play an acoustic session, tried a song mariachi style instead and found a completely new direction. For attendees, that means a set built on original, traditional mariachi music — delivered by musicians known for a much louder day job. It's a distinctive, cross-cultural show from a band willing to reinvent itself.
