Steve Smith & Vital Information at Birdland Theater

Drummer Steve Smith brings his long-running jazz group Vital Information to Birdland Theater for a night of virtuosic improvisation. Smith, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and former Journey drummer, has led the band since 1983. The current trio features keyboardist Manuel Valera and bassist Janek Gwizdala, who together explore a mix of bebop swing, South Indian Carnatic rhythms, and funk-driven jazz standards.

Their latest album, New Perspective, reimagines songs Smith recorded earlier, including Journey hits like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms," alongside new compositions. Fans can expect tight interplay and adventurous arrangements from a group that has been a staple at Birdland for years.
