The Pharcyde: Hip-Hop Group from South Central Los Angeles

The Pharcyde is an American hip-hop group that formed in South Central Los Angeles in 1991. Its original four members were Imani (Emandu Wilcox), Slimkid3 (Trevant Hardson), Bootie Brown (Romye Robinson) and Fatlip (Derrick Stewart). DJ Mark Luv was the group's first disc jockey, followed by producer J-Swift and then J Dilla.

The debut album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde arrived in 1992 and included the crossover hit single "Passin' Me By". In 1995 the group released its second studio album, Labcabincalifornia, which featured the singles "Drop" and "Runnin'". Fatlip left the group in 1997, and the remaining members released Plain Rap in 2000; after that, Slimkid3 also departed.

Imani and Brootie Brown continued and released Humboldt Beginnings in 2004. In 2008 all four members temporarily reunited for performances at that year's Rock the Bells festival. The group reformed as a trio in the 2020s and returned to touring and releasing new music, with Bootie Brown declining to participate.
