Thelma and the Sleaze — an independent all-female, queer southern rock band from Nashville — brings its rock sound to The Nick in Birmingham. The group took shape in 2010, when frontwoman Lauren “LG” Gilbert and former bandmates from the dissolved punk group the Trampskirts came together for a first show themed after the film Thelma & Louise. Gilbert, who studied audio engineering in Nashville, fronts the band on vocals and guitar.
At The Nick, a private club and 21+ venue on 10th Ave S, the current lineup pairs Gilbert with Amaia “Coochie Coochie” Aguirre on organ/keyboards and Shaylee “Snowflake” Walsh on drums. It's a chance to catch a band with deep roots in Nashville's rock scene in a compact, club-sized room.
