Acerca de Crash Test Dummies

The group evolved from an earlier act, Bad Brad Roberts and the St. James Rhythm Pigs, formed in 1986. The Crash Test Dummies name was suggested by a friend studying medicine, referencing crash-test mannequins. Their best-known lineup featured Brad Roberts (vocals, guitar), Ellen Reid (keyboards, co-vocals), Dan Roberts (bass), Benjamin Darvill (harmonica, mandolin) and Mitch Dorge (drums).

The band won the Juno Award for Group of the Year in 1992 after early success in Canada. International breakthrough followed with the 1993 album God Shuffled His Feet, which sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide and includes the hit single "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm," alongside earlier songs "Superman's Song" and "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead." The band also won the MTV Europe Music Award for Breakthrough Artist in 1994 and received three Grammy nominations along with eleven further Juno nominations.

Other albums include The Ghosts That Haunt Me (1991), A Worm's Life (1996) and Oooh La La (2010), with a sound that moves between alternative rock and folk rock across acoustic, electric and electronic textures. After periods of hiatus, the band reunited for anniversary tours beginning in 2017.
