Ensiferum
Ensiferum is a Finnish folk metal band formed in Helsinki in 1995 by guitarist Markus Toivonen, bassist Sauli Savolainen and drummer Kimmo Miettinen. The name is Latin for "sword bearing." Jari Mäenpää joined as vocalist and second guitarist in 1996 before departing in 2004.

Acerca de Ensiferum
The group describes its sound as melodic folk metal, combining elements of Viking metal, power metal and melodic death metal with instrumentation drawn from Finnish folk tradition. After early demos, the band signed with Spinefarm Records in 1999 and released its debut album in 2001; it has since issued nine studio albums, moving to Metal Blade Records in 2013 after thirteen years with Spinefarm. Its most recent album is Winter Storm (2024).
The current lineup includes Toivonen alongside Petri Lindroos (guitars, harsh vocals), Sami Hinkka (bass, vocals), Janne Parviainen (drums) and Pekka Montin (keyboards, clean vocals), following several lineup changes since the band's founding.
Ensiferum remains active and has scheduled touring dates supporting DragonForce and Orden Ogan into 2027.
