Olaf Schubert is the stage persona of the German comedian, cabaret artist and musician Michael Haubold, born on 7 November 1967 in Plauen and based in Dresden. The character is a self-assured know-it-all fond of wordplay, with a knitted argyle pullover vest and a comb-over as trademarks. He performs with the band Olaf Schubert und seine Freunde.
He became known in Saxony in the 1990s and gained national attention after 2000 through the Quatsch Comedy Club and Night Wash. He has been a regular on the ZDF satire programme heute-show and has fronted television shows including Olaf TV, Olaf verbessert die Welt!, Olaf macht Mut and Olafs Klub. He also appeared on LOL: Last One Laughing. His stage programmes include Meine Kämpfe (2008) and So! (2012).
His awards include the Salzburger Stier (2004), the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis (2010), the Deutscher Comedypreis for best comedian (2013) and the Bayerischer Kabarettpreis (2018). He has been patron of the Humorzone Dresden festival since 2015.
