Baden-Baden is a spa town in the Black Forest foothills, built around thermal springs used since Roman times. Its 19th-century casino, the Festspielhaus concert hall and Lichtentaler Allee park give it the polish of a 'summer capital' once favoured by European nobility, plus horse races nearby at Iffezheim.
