Soil
Soil, often stylized SOiL, is an American alternative metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1997 by former members of the death metal bands Oppressor and Broken Hope. The group took its name from a song by the Swedish band Entombed. Longtime members Tim King (bass) and Adam Zadel (guitar) have remained with the band since its founding.

Acerca de Soil
After early independent releases, including the 1999 album Throttle Junkies, heavy radio play of the demo track "Halo" sparked a major-label bidding war that Soil's original lineup, fronted by singer Ryan McCombs, won with J Records. The resulting major-label debut, Scars (2001), became the band's commercial breakthrough on the strength of "Halo" and "Unreal," earning Metal Edge magazine's Next Big Thing award. A second J Records album, Redefine, followed in 2004.
McCombs left Soil in late 2004 to join Drowning Pool and was replaced by singer A.J. Cavalier, who fronted the band through albums including True Self (2006) and Picture Perfect (2009) on the independent label DRT Entertainment. McCombs rejoined Soil in 2011 for an anniversary tour and has remained its vocalist since, with the band releasing Whole in 2013 and, more recently, a covers album and a set of re-recorded tracks.
The current lineup of McCombs, Zadel, King, and drummer T.J. Taylor, who joined in 2017, continues to record and perform, appearing regularly on major American rock and metal festival bills.
