Aachen
Aachen was Charlemagne's imperial capital and is still centered on Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where 31 Holy Roman Emperors were crowned. Its hot springs shaped its history as a spa town, and it now sits at the border where Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet, home to RWTH Aachen University.
