The Darmstadtium has served as a science and congress centre since 2007; its name comes from the chemical element Darmstadtium (DS110), which was artificially produced in 1994 at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt. The building incorporates an outer part of the old city wall, visible on the outdoor grounds, and historical fortifications from the 14th century that are publicly accessible through the entrance foyer "atrium", as well as a sandstone figure of the city's patron saint Darmstadtia from the 19th century in the rear area of the entrance foyer. The seating plan with fixed seats is not accessible; booking help is available on the ticket hotline 069 427262 680.
