Bunbury or The importance of being Wilde is a play staged at Großes Haus, Theaterplatz, in Aachen on Friday, 14 May 2027, at 19:00. Tickets start at 16.00 euros, and a discount is available. The play is by Nikolas Darnstädt, after Oscar Wilde.
The dandys Jack and Algernon escape their social duties by inventing other obligations. Algy claims to look after a sickly friend named Bunbury in the country, while Jack regularly travels to the city to supervise a fantasy brother called Ernst. In truth, Jack enjoys himself in high society under that name and falls in love with Algernon's cousin Gwendolyn.
Things spin out of control when Algy travels to Jack's country home and presents himself to Jack's ward Cecily as Jack's brother Ernst. Nikolas Darnstädt, who most recently directed "Alice im Wunderland" at Theater Aachen, adds characters from Oscar Wilde's other comedies to Bunbury and turns it into a screwball comedy. The organiser is Stadttheater Aachen.
