The group is a professional American a cappella act that originated in 1996 at Indiana University. Originally a student group, they recorded a video in 1998 of a comical version of "The 12 Days of Christmas". That video went viral on YouTube in 2007 and led to a reunion of the founding members and a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records in 2008.

Their first Christmas album, Holiday Spirits, was recorded in July 2008 in Bloomington, Indiana. In 2009 the group released the EP Six Pack and a second Christmas album, Christmas Cheers, and in April 2010 they released their first non-Christmas album, With a Twist.
