The R&B Cadets Reunion in Milwaukee

The R&B Cadets, a beloved Milwaukee band from the 1980s, are reuniting for a special performance at Shank Hall. Known for their distinctive mix of deep soul cuts and sparkling originals, the band got a lot of folks out on the dance floor during their heyday. Their repertoire drew from Paul Cebar's massive record collection and original songs penned by John Sieger, often in tandem with Michael Feldman. Splitting lead duties were Sieger, Cebar, and the lovely chanteuse Robin Pluer, whose sweet voice was a highlight of the band's sound.

The original lineup included Mike Sieger on bass, Cy Costabile on drums (later replaced by Bobby Schneider), and Juli Wood on saxophone (later replaced by Bob Jennings). In their prime, the Cadets were the house band at the late, lamented Century Hall in Milwaukee and traveled to fans in the Twin Cities, Chicago, Madison, and New York, playing legendary clubs like CBGB's and The Knitting Factory. Their only record, "Top Happy," featured a song produced by Nick Lowe and earned great reviews.

After the band's breakup, its members went on to form other notable acts, including Semi-Twang and the Milwaukeeans. Now, the three-headed beast has reunited in rehearsal, tightening up songs old and new. The crowd at their first reunion gig was up and dancing from the first downbeat, and this show promises more of the same high-energy, soulful fun.
