Fruit Bats
Fruit Bats are an American indie folk band formed in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois, by singer-songwriter Eric D. Johnson, who has remained the group's sole permanent member across a rotating cast of touring and session musicians. Johnson has said he took the band's name from what he called "this dumb fake punk rock name" scrawled on an early four-track demo tape.

À propos de Fruit Bats
The band's catalogue moved from the lo-fi Americana of its 2001 debut, Echolocation, and 2003's Mouthfuls, which featured the song "When U Love Somebody," toward the more expansive sound of 2009's The Ruminant Band. After disbanding in 2013, Johnson revived Fruit Bats in 2015 and signed with Merge Records in 2018; subsequent albums include Gold Past Life (2019), The Pet Parade (2021) and A River Running to Your Heart (2023). The 2016 track "Humbug Mountain Song," from the album Absolute Loser, has been streamed more than 59 million times on Spotify.
Alongside Fruit Bats, Johnson taught guitar and banjo at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, played in the experimental folk group Califone from 2000 to 2006, and was a touring and recording member of the Shins from 2006 to 2010. He has also scored films, including Our Idiot Brother and Smashed, and in 2018 co-founded the folk trio Bonny Light Horseman with Josh Kaufman and Anaïs Mitchell, whose self-titled debut album received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album in 2021.
