Cappadocia
Cappadocia is a region in central Anatolia, not a single city, centred on the towns of Goreme, Urgup and Nevsehir. Volcanic rock has eroded into fairy-chimney formations and been hollowed into cave dwellings, churches and underground cities, and the region is best known for sunrise hot-air balloon flights over the valleys.

Top things to do in Cappadocia
The most popular sights, with 2026 entrance fees. Prices are adult admission — cheapest at the gate. Many of the best things are free.
| Attraction | Entrance | Time | Why go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goreme Open Air Museum | €20 | 1.5-2 hours | UNESCO World Heritage rock-cut monastery complex with frescoed Byzantine churches carved into the tuff cliffs; the single essential Cappadocia sight, an easy half-day stop right outside Goreme town. |
| Cappadocia Hot-Air Balloon Flight | Varies | 3-4 hours door-to-door (about 1 hour airborne) | Sunrise balloon flight over the fairy chimneys and valleys of Cappadocia, the region's signature experience; flights are weather-dependent and frequently rescheduled or cancelled. |
| Uchisar Castle | Varies | 45 minutes-1 hour | The tallest rock formation in Cappadocia, honeycombed with old dwellings and tunnels; a short climb to the summit gives the best 360-degree panorama over the whole region. |
| Devrent Valley & Pasabag (Monks Valley) | Free | 30-45 minutes each | Two adjoining, unfenced valleys of surreal fairy-chimney formations: Devrent ('Imagination Valley') for its animal-shaped rocks, Pasabag for its multi-headed chimneys once used as monk hermitages; both sit directly on the roadside between Goreme and Avanos. |
| Kaymakli & Derinkuyu Underground Cities | €13 | 1-1.5 hours per site | Two multi-level underground cities cut into soft volcanic rock, historically used as refuge from raiders; Derinkuyu is the deeper and more extensive of the two, Kaymakli more compact and an easier walk. Most visitors tour only one as a half-day stop. |
